Annual Lend an Arm Blood Drive Scheduled to Provide Hope

Memorial Day weekend is one of the most traveled holiday weekends of the us prepare by donating blood at this community event.

Sioux Falls, SD- Dakota News Now, Scheels, and Community Blood Bank will host the annual “Lend an Arm” spring blood drive event on Friday, May 27 from 9:00 am to 5:00 p.m. at Scheels (41st St. & Western Ave.). There is a need for all blood types as we move into the long holiday weekend and prepare the blood supply for three days where donation centers will be closed.

“This event will provide lifesaving blood for our community patients through the three day weekend. It is extremely important to have a successful collection to keep our local supply strong for Memorial Day,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “We continue to see long term issues related to the pandemic that has increased the demand for blood. Additionally, with the continued growth in Sioux Falls there has been a major increase in the need for blood to address serious medical conditions. We are asking the community to come out and donate blood at this event to provide certainty for those patients in need of blood donations. Through the support of local volunteers we can ensure blood is available when the need arises, especially during a time when more people are traveling on road and water ways.”

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health.  Donors exhibiting cold or flu symptoms are unable to donate.  A valid identification is required at the time of registration.  It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating blood.  With policies associated in addressing COVID-19, only donors with appointments will be accepted at this blood drive event.  To schedule an appointment donors can log onto and click “events” and May 27 to find the Lend an Arm blood drive or call 605-331-3222.
