Avera Tyler and Community Blood Bank will celebrate the 1000th donation of blood since the bloodmobile began visiting the Tyler in 2000. This blood drive will mark the 31st blood drive hosted with Community Blood Bank. The Avera Tyler faculty, staff and Tyler community members now have donated over 125 gallons of blood for use for patients in the Tyler community.
A special “All American” blood drive event will be held on Wednesday, August 10 from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Avera Tyler. There will be special t-shirts and free lunch given to all who donate to celebrate the 1000th donation.
“Community support is vital to the local blood supply. It is important to know that the blood that is donated to Community Blood Bank is from your friends and neighbors in this region,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Avera Tyler over 16 years. We celebrate with the Tyler Community for their 1000th donation of life saving blood. Because of dedicated donors donating, blood is readily available for traumas, surgeries and the treatment of cancer.”
Individuals can safely donate blood every 56 days. Eligible donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a sign consent form found at cbblifeblood.org), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating. For additional information please contact the Avera Tyler Lab at 247-2213 or log onto www.cbblifeblood.org.
Community Blood Bank is not affiliated with other blood bank organizations and takes pride in being a self-sufficient organization, thanks to the generosity of our local blood donors.
