Brookings, SD- Brookings Health System and Community Blood Bank will host the annual All American community blood drive on Tuesday, June 4 from 7:30 am to 11:00 am and 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm at Brookings Health System. Blood donation are needed immediately to help with summer blood shortages within the community.
“The beginning of the summer has been one of the most difficult times to keep up with the demand for blood in recent years,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “We have seen such a significant increase in usage through the treatment of surgery and cancer patients. Currently, there is an outpacing of usage over collections. Our hope is that we see a strong showing of support for the blood drive at the Brookings Health System All American community blood drive.”
Donors donating blood on Tuesday, June 4 will receive a special commemorative ALL AMERICAN BLOOD DONOR t-shirt and a free lunch.
Community Blood Bank supplies over 550 units of blood each week to people in the region. Among those who benefit from donated blood are trauma and burn victims, cancer patients and persons undergoing surgery. Donating blood is a simple way to save patients’ lives in the community. Without volunteer blood donors donating blood throughout the summer, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain an adequate supply of blood for our community hospitals.
