Call for Blood Donations at the Watertown All American Blood Drive

Watertown, SD- Prairie Lakes Healthcare System, Watertown Radio, HyVee, Watertown Mall and Community Blood Bank will host the 11th Annual All American community blood drive on Monday, July 2 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Tuesday, July 3 from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Watertown Mall (east entrance).  All blood types are in need to help with the holiday blood supply!

“Blood supplies are being depleted at a rapid pace and it is extremely difficult to keep up with demands, states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank.  “There have been many days within the last week where our usage is outpacing collection by 40%.  Our hope is to collect enough donations to place supplies at adequate levels before the July 4th holiday.  All blood donations will go directly to saving patients’ lives at Prairie Lakes Healthcare System.”

Blood is needed each day in the United States to sustain the lives of patients in need. Whether used for surgery, traumas, during cancer treatment or other life threatening medical conditions, blood is used to provide hope.  There are many blood suppliers throughout the country, some are very large blood providers, some a little smaller and others are hospital operated.  Community Blood Bank is hospital operated with a joint shared resource of Avera and Sanford Health Systems, meaning when you donate on the bloodmobile the donation will go directly back to Prairie Lakes Healthcare System to save local lives.

Donors donating blood on either July 2nd or July 3rd will receive a special commemorative ALL AMERICAN BLOOD DONOR t-shirt and a free lunch, compliments of Hy-Vee, Watertown.   For those who donate blood on July 3rd between the hours of 7:00 am to 9:00 am we will have free coffee and cinnamon rolls.  Come out to visit with KWAT’s “What’s Up” on Tuesday, beginning at 8:30 am.  They will be broadcasting live from the blood drive.

Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org), weigh 110 lbs or more and be in good general health. Please bring an ID with you.  It is recommended that donors eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating blood.

Community Blood Bank is proud to be the sole provider of blood and blood products to Prairie Lakes Healthcare System, Watertown, SD for over 14 years, as well as 33 other area hospitals.  Community Blood Bank is not affiliated with other blood bank organizations and takes pride in being a self-sufficient organization, thanks to the generosity of our local blood donors.
