Sioux Falls, SD- Texas Roadhouse, Avera McKennan, Sanford USD Medical Center and Community Blood Bank will hold a special blood donation opportunity during the week of Monday, June 21 through Friday, June 25 at both blood donation rooms at Avera McKennan Hospital (Plaza 2, 4th floor) and Sanford USD Medical Center (Locken Lobby, main hospital entrance).  The local blood supply is approaching a severe blood shortage, as the demand for blood to treat critically ill patients has risen over 40% in the last two months. All who donate between June 21 through June 25 at both donor room locations will receive a certificate for a free “Texas Roadhouse All American Cheese Burger Meal” and a t-shirt.  

“It is extremely important to fill our donation schedules during this special blood donation opportunity to give the blood supply the strongest chance of rebounding prior to a three day holiday weekend, July 4th. Strengthening the local blood supply can only be done through volunteer blood donors scheduling their donation and rolling up their sleeves,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “We are experiencing our some of the lowest blood supply levels in over since we began our mobile operations in 1991. The need for blood is increasing as we see many elective procedures being schedule throughout the area.”

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health.  Donors exhibiting cold or flu symptoms are unable to donate.  A valid identification is required at the time of registration.  It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating blood.  With policies associated in addressing COVID-19, only donors with appointments will be accepted at this blood drive event.  To schedule an appointment donors can log onto and click “register to donate”, select a date between June 21 – June 25 from the calendar.
