“Throughout the last 6 weeks, there have been times where we’ve had extreme concern about how we will meet the demands placed on the blood supply throughout the day,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “We have been at the brink of making difficult decisions on how to disperse our limited inventory and determining the fine line on how much blood to keep available to address emergency situations. We continue to see a large volume of elective surgeries, as the community seeks out medical treatment after the pandemic. At this point we are using anywhere from 18 – 30% more blood per week than before the pandemic began.”

Donor must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health.  Donors exhibiting cold or flu symptoms are unable to donate.  A valid identification is required at the time of registration.  It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating blood.  With policies associated in addressing COVID-19, only donors with appointments will be accepted at this blood drive event.  To schedule an appointment donors by logging onto and click on “events” and select July 30 on the calendar, select Rise & Shine or call 605-331-3222.
