The second annual Eyes vs. Ears community blood drive kicks off on Friday, June 29 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at Sioux Falls Family Vision and Midwest Ears, Nose and Throat (57th & Western Ave.). All those donating blood will receive a certificate for $2 off a 6 pack and a pound at Taco John’s, a pint for a pint of Culver’s custard and an All American blood donor t-shirt.
“Blood supplies are being depleted at a rapid pace and it is extremely difficult to keep up with demands, states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “There have been many days within the last week where our usage is outpacing collection by 40%. Our hope is to collect enough donations to place supplies at adequate levels before the July 4th holiday. All blood donations will go directly to saving patients’ lives at all of our Sioux Falls Hospitals.”
There are many blood suppliers throughout the country, some are very large blood providers, some a little smaller and others are hospital operated. Community Blood Bank is hospital operated with a joint shared resource of Avera and Sanford Health Systems, meaning when you donate on the bloodmobile the donation will go directly back to our hospitals in the Sioux Falls area to save local lives.
