The 21st annual “Heroes Behind the Badges” blood drive event come to a successful end with total collections of 1,081 donations.  The blood drive event held December 27th – January 6th was a competition between Sioux Falls Fire Rescue and the Sioux Falls Police Department.  The final tally places the Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, with 570 donation votes, as the winners of this year’s event vs. Sioux Falls Police Department with 511 donation votes.

During the blood drive event, donors could designate their donation to the department of their choice.  Sioux Falls Fire Rescue will present a $700.00 check to the Children’s Home Society, compliments of Citibank and Farmers Insurance (Rod Goeman Agency).  The Sioux Falls Police Department will present a $300 check to the Children’s Home Society at a luncheon hosted by Texas Roadhouse.

“This year’s event was one of the most successful within the 21 year history,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank.  “We are grateful for the Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, Police Department, the event sponsors and all of the donors that impact our community through blood donation during the holidays.  The blood drive event continues to provide 100% of our patients’ needs throughout the two weeks of Christmas and New Year’s when blood supplies are at their lowest.”
