Holiday Blood Collection Push Continues As Demand Peeks

Sioux Falls, SD- Community Blood Bank is seeing a very high demand for blood and blood products moving into the holiday season amidst the challenges associated with the COVID pandemic.

“The good news is collection is up with many residents beginning to understand our community’s need for blood donations,” said Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “There is a glimmer of hope, as residents are responding to our pleas about coming in to give blood at our donor rooms and mobile blood drives. There is still an issue with demand outpacing the collection we are currently at. The needs are high with so many people requiring surgery, as they put off their critical care as long as they possibly could. It is so important that we continue to see donors of all blood types, along with new donors, giving blood the closer we get to the new year.”
