KSFY TV, Avera McKennan Fitness Center and the Minnesota Avenue Dairy Queen will host the event, which will be held from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Avera McKennan Fitness Center on 3400 Southeastern Dr.
Executive Director of the Community Blood Bank Ken Versteeg said Labor Day weekend is one of the busiest holidays for travelers, and that the blood supply usually is compromised during that time.
“This special blood drive event will help bring awareness to the local needs, as well as provide a boost in the blood supply in order for us to be able to treat trauma, surgery and cancer patients throughout the holiday weekend,” he said in a press release.
Blood donors will receive a free t-shirt, a three-day pass for the Avera McKennan Fitness Center, and a Dairy Queen “pint for a pint” certificate.
Donors must be at least 17 years old to give blood, and weigh 110 or more pounds and be in good health. Bring an ID, and eat and drink plenty of fluids before arriving.
