Sanford Worthington to Celebrate 3000th Blood Donation

Worthington, MN- Sanford Worthington will celebrate their 3,000 donation of life saving blood with Community Blood Bank at a special blood drive being held on Thursday, November 2 from 10:00am to 1:30pm and 3:00pm to 6:00pm.   Worthington community members, Sanford Worthington faculty and staff have partnered with Community Blood Bank for over 15 years and have hosted 60 blood drives, saving up to 9,000 lives in our community.

“In recent days we have seen a spike in blood usage by 15% due to an increase need for blood to be used for surgeries, traumas and cancer patients. This blood drive will help ensure that blood is available for all patients,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank.  “When you donate blood on Thursday, November 2 you are helping local patients in their time of need.  Your donations will make blood readily available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.   We encourage new donors as well as those donors that have donated multiple times to give the gift of life. Community Blood Bank is very grateful for the partnership that we have with Sanford Worthington and the tremendous support from all the staff and community.”

A person must be at least 16 years old (16 year olds require a signed parent consent form found at, weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health.  It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating blood.

Community Blood Bank is the sole provider of blood (platelets, plasma and red blood cells) to 34 local hospitals including Sanford Worthington, Sanford Health, Avera McKennan Hospital, Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota and the V.A.
