Sharp Automotive and Community Blood Bank will partner up to save lives at a special summer community blood drive event held on Wednesday, August 28 from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Sharp Automotive in Watertown. The public will have an opportunity to donate blood to help local patients in the hospital during the month of August. All blood donations will go directly to saving patients’ lives in Watertown. All who donate will receive a special All American blood drive t-shirt and a FREE meal, compliments of Sharp Automotive.
“This summer has been one of the most difficult times to keep up with the demand for blood in recent years,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “We have seen such a significant increase in usage through the treatment of surgery and cancer patients. Currently, there is an outpacing of usage over collections. We are looking for all blood types, with hopes to see a strong showing of support for the blood drive at Sharp Automotive blood drive event to improve the overall condition of the blood supply.”
Community Blood Bank supplies over 550 units of blood each week to people in the region. Among those who benefit from donated blood are trauma and burn victims, cancer patients and persons undergoing surgery. Donating blood is a simple way to save patients’ lives in the community. Without volunteer blood donors donating blood throughout the summer, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain an adequate supply of blood for our community hospitals.
