Sioux Falls, SD-The 22nd annual “Heroes Behind the Badges” blood drive event came to a close with a total collection of 1,048 donations. The blood drive event held December 26th – January 5th was a competition between Sioux Falls Fire Rescue and the Sioux Falls Police Department. During the blood drive event, donors could designate their donation to the department of their choice. The final tally places the Sioux Falls Police Department as the winners of this year’s event with 530 donations vs. the Sioux Falls Fire Rescue with 518 donations.
Sioux Falls Police Department will present a $700.00 check to the Special Olympics of South Dakota, compliments of Citibank and Farmers Insurance (Rod Goeman Agency). The Sioux Falls Fire Rescue will present a $300 check to the Children’s Home Society at a luncheon hosted by Texas Roadhouse.
“This blood drive competition provides blood during a critical time. The organizations involved in the event provide encouragement to the community to give blood during the holidays,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “Throughout the 22 years of this event, over 14,000 blood donations have been provided, saving tens of thousands of lives within Sioux Falls community. We appreciate the Sioux Falls Police Department, Fire Rescue, the many sponsors and all of the life – saving donors supporting this event.”
