The South Dakota Air National Guards will celebrate the 7000th donation of blood since the Community Blood Bank Bloodmobile began visiting the base in 1991. The blood drive, which takes place in July, marks the 144th blood drive event hosted with Community Blood Bank. The base staff members have donated over 875 gallons of blood for use for patients in the Sioux Falls community.
The South Dakota Air National Guards sponsor’s six to eight bloods drives a year in partnership with the Community Blood Bank. “Community support is vital to the local blood supply. It is important to know that the blood that is donated to Community Blood Bank is from your friends and neighbors in this region,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the South Dakota Air National Guards for over 24 years. We celebrate with the base for their 7000th donation of life saving blood. Because of the dedication of blood donors donating blood at the South Dakota Air National Guards, blood is readily available for traumas, surgeries and the treatment of cancer.”
