Sioux Falls, SD- Dakota News Now, Scheels, and Community Blood Bank will host the annual “Lend an Arm” community blood drive event Friday, May 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Scheels (41st St. & Western Ave.). An annual event where community partners come together to provide support towards the community’s blood supply. All who donate will receive an event t-shirt, a pair of movie tickets, and a pint of D.Q. ice cream.
“This event will provide lifesaving blood for our community patients through the three day Memorial weekend when, historically, the demand for blood increase 0 – 25%. It is extremely important to have a successful collection to keep our local supply strong for Memorial Day,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “Our community is experiencing significant growth and the blood supply is stretched due to the demand for medical services. Donating blood only takes 30 minutes and will potentially save up to three lives. Volunteers are the cornerstone to our community’s blood supply and one of the foundations to the medical community. Through the support of local volunteers we can ensure blood is available when the need arises, especially during the first summer holiday time when more people are traveling on road and water ways.”
Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org) weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health. Donors exhibiting cold or flu symptoms are unable to donate. A valid identification is required at the time of registration. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating blood. With policies associated in addressing COVID-19, only donors with appointments will be accepted at this blood drive event. To schedule an appointment donors can log onto www.cbblifeblood.org and click “events” and May 26, then select Lend an Arm blood drive or call 605-331-3222.
