Sioux Falls, SD- Hy-Vee (all Sioux Falls locations) and Community Blood Bank are joining forces to strengthen blood supplies throughout the summer months by offering the “Fueling up the Blood Supply” campaign. Donors scheduling an appointment to give blood any Monday in June, July, or August, at either Avera McKennan Hospital or Sanford USD Medical Center donor rooms will receive a $15 gas voucher redeemable at all 6 Sioux Falls Hy-Vee locations. Additionally, listed are blood drives throughout the summer that will provide the special thank you gift for all those donating blood.
Residents are asked to consider donating blood in support of the summer blood supply. To schedule an appointment people may log onto www.cbblifeblood.org, select “news”, and the Hy-Vee “Fueling up the Blood Supply” article with drive details and event schedule links included or call Community Blood Bank at 605-331-3222.
According to Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank, “The summer months are the most difficult time of year for Community Blood Bank to maintain an adequate blood supply for local patients. The challenge occurs when we see more people busy with summer vacations and outdoor activities. Versteeg says, “When you combine more people traveling on roadways and waterways, an increase in traumas, and a decrease in collections of 15%, we experience several critical blood shortages. Partnering with our Sioux Falls Hy-Vee stores to offer a special gas voucher to those giving blood will improve our outlook and help keep supplies ample to treat patients requiring blood transfusions.”
