“Summer is an unpredictable time when it comes to blood usage. With so many summer activities going on, people taking summer vacation, and traveling more, we see an increase in traumas. Blood supplies can be depleted very quickly based upon the situation,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “It only takes 30 minutes to provide life to three patients in the local area. We are asking donors to consider taking the time to ensure we avoid a summer blood shortage by giving blood at the Avera McKennan Fitness Center on August 30. Help us prepare for those unexpected times when blood is required to save a life.”
Community Blood Bank was founded by Sanford Medical Center and Avera McKennan Hospital in 1976 to be the sole blood provider to local area hospitals. Community Blood Bank is the sole blood provider to all Sioux Falls hospitals and 32 other area hospitals. When you give blood on the bloodmobile you will directly save local lives in your community.
