“The summer months are extremely difficult to maintain a strong blood supply for our community patients. With so many people traveling and involved in summer activities, time is limited. The good thing is that it only takes 30 minutes to provide a lifesaving blood donations that could ultimately save up to three local lives,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “We are just barely holding our head above water to meet the demand for blood, we foresee difficulties in maintaining a solid blood supply for our community in the next couple of months. The usage has been volatile, as we see an increase in traumas, community population growth that creates additional blood needs, and summer blood shortages due to lower collection at blood drive events. Providing a donation at this special blood drive event will ensure blood will be available when surgery, cancer, and trauma patients need transfusions. There is no outside assistance available from other blood banks as we are all experiencing the same summer shortages.”

Donor must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org) weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health.  Donors exhibiting cold or flu symptoms are unable to donate.  A valid identification is required at the time of registration.  It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating blood.  Community Blood Bank is not affiliated with other blood bank organizations and takes pride in being a self-sufficient organization, thanks to the generosity of our local blood donors.
