Sioux Falls, SD- Dakota News Now, Scheels, and Community Blood Bank will host the annual “Lend an Arm” blood drive event on Friday, May 23rd from 9:00 am to 5:00 p.m. at Scheels (41st St. & Western Ave.). There is an urgent need for all blood types as we move into the long holiday weekend and prepare our community’s blood supply. All those who donate blood will receive a (2) movie tickets + a $10 Scheels gift card as thank you gifts for supporting local patients.
“This event consistently provides a lifeline for our community patients through the three day holiday weekend. This marks the first holiday for summer travelers to get out on the road and enjoy family, friends, and the outdoors. Historically, we mark a trend of an increase in blood demands during this weekend,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “Being prepared for severally ill patients, traumas, and many other emergency situations, is what this event is all about. We are asking people to consider supporting one of the essential needs in our community that only volunteers can provide. Come out to donate blood at this event to provide certainty for those patients in need of blood donations. Through the support of local volunteers we can ensure blood is available when the need arises.”
Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org) weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health. Donors exhibiting cold or flu symptoms are unable to donate. A valid identification is required at the time of registration. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating blood.
