Sioux Falls, SD- Scheels of Sioux Falls (2101 W. 41st St.) will host a special blood drive Friday, September 22 between 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. This blood drive event will help secure the community’s blood supply as we head into the fall months. Those wishing to give blood can schedule a donation by logging onto www.cbblifeblood.org, selecting “events”, and Friday, September 22. All who donate receive a $10 Hy-Vee gift card as a thank you.

“Our summer has zipped by and we are entering into fall with an exciting blood drive event that will provide up to 100 donations going into the weekend,” stated Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “Many donors note the special feeling they get by knowing their blood donation will provide life to a person going through a difficult time. With just one donation saving up to three community lives, it is easy to get emotional over the special gift volunteers provide by rolling up their sleeves. The miracle continues as a person can donate up to 6 times per year (every 56 days), meaning one person could save up 18 community patients per year. We ask those people that have never donated blood before to consider coming forward and trying it for the very first time. It is something that is personal and rewarding.”

Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org), weigh 110 lbs or more and be in good general health the day of the donation. Please bring an I.D. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating.  For more information log onto www.cbblifeblood.org or call Community Blood Bank at (605) 331-3222.  Community Blood Banks is a nonprofit, cooperative of Sanford Medical Center and Avera McKennan Hospital.
