Sioux Falls Unites: Heroes Behind the Badges Rally for Community Health this Holiday Season

Sioux Falls, SD – In a spirited competition, the Sioux Falls Fire Rescue and Sioux Falls Police Departments are joining forces to bolster the community’s blood supply during the 28th Annual “Heroes Behind the Badges.”

This blood drive event is set to kick off on Friday, December 22nd and will continue until Saturday, January 6th. Residents are urged to pledge their blood donation in support of their preferred department. As a token of appreciation, all donors will receive a department-designed t-shirt, a certificate for a complimentary Texas Roadhouse sidekick, a redeemable coin for an Oh My Cupcakes cupcake, and (2) tickets to a local Skyforce game (while supplies last). Donors can secure their donation slots throughout the competition by visiting cbblifeblood.org or calling 605-331-3222 to schedule an appointment. While appointments are recommended, walk-ins are warmly welcomed.

“With the holiday season upon us, our community’s blood demand is surging alongside our population growth. Like many regions, we rely on volunteers to step up and donate blood through Community Blood Bank to replenish our local reserves,” emphasized Ken Versteeg, Executive Director of Community Blood Bank. “We urge all residents to consider contributing during this special blood drive to fortify the blood stores for our local hospitals. Your donation will directly aid critically ill patients in the Sioux Falls area as we enter the New Year. This holiday season poses one of the most challenging periods for maintaining our blood supplies. Please support our local heroes, the Sioux Falls Police and Fire Rescue, by donating at this special annual event and bring hope to our fellow residents.”

Donors should be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parental consent form), weigh 110 lbs. or more, and be in good overall health. It is advisable to have a meal and hydrate adequately before donating blood. Donors are required to bring identification at the time of donation.

Community Blood Bank operates independently, priding itself on self-sufficiency, thanks to the immense generosity of our local blood donors.
